It's beginning to look a lot like.... SUMMER!!!!

So, I'm sorry I have not updated in a while now; I was being so good there for a while lol. But I'm back mo-fo's! AND SO IS THE SUN! No more post about annoying snow, not at least until next year lol. Well this weekend was pretty awesome; I got to see my buddy Doug who I haven't seen in forever! We went to a party in the SW, with some of his med school friends and then we went out to Nellies afterwards. Nellies has seriously turned into my favorite bar here in DC, you can pretty much catch me there at some point every weekend. Well I end up getting really drunk (story of my life right) and really wanted to go to Town. So, I try to convince Doug to go, but he is so set on not going because he is tired. So, my drunk ass ends up going to Town alone, WTF?!? But, I met these really cool people and they ended up being my new BFF's. [Side note, so I got a new digital camera this weekend, and didn't remember I met new friends until checking my camera the next day to this]

Yeah, I know I'm crazy. So, Saturday I had some of my buddies come up and visit. I showed them around a little bit, and we went and grabbed dinner, nothing huge. The cherry blossom festival ended in a fireworks show, on the waterfront, woot! So we all watched the fireworks from my balcony, it was pretty awesome. On Sunday we walked around and I finally took a trip to the White House; this is my first time ever going.

It ended up being a very great and relaxing weekend, other than Friday, I didn't do anything too crazy, and I was able to just hang out and enjoy great weather with friends. I am really looking forward to the spring/summer in DC, and this weekend was just a glimpse into what to expect. I will be back permanently in two weeks, and I am so excited to be back for good, and not just the weekends. Now that I've got a new camera, expect more pictures to come! Hope you guys enjoyed your weekend as much as I did!

The Real World DC

Good Eats and BAD Eats

So on Friday night, and and a my friend decided to check out this restaurant called Busboys and Poets in the U St area. The name of the restaurant inspired by the African American poet Langston Hughes, and is supposed to be a place for artist/writers to work in a creative atmosphere and enjoy great food while they're at it. I loved this place; it had a great vibe to it, and a superfluous diverse menu, that would satisfy all types of urges no matter what you were feeling. I had the salmon, which was very good.

This is my food after I attacked it when it was first brought out to me; it was soooo good. Lol. I managed to snap some shots of the restaurant as well.

Though this was a great choice, we also made a not so great choice of restaurants on Saturday afternoon. So, I've had this app on my iPhone called Urbanspoon; you know that app that you always play with whenever everyone is trying to make a decision on where to eat, but you NEVER actually go to any of the options it picks out for you. Well I was feeling spontaneous on Saturday, and decided what the hell, I'm going to eat at whatever restaurant this app spits at me. So I shake it, and the first restaurant to pop up is this place called Eat First in Chinatown. I think to myself, hmmm it's cheap, and it's walking distance from my place; sounds like a plan! So we go, and we get there, and there are literally dead chickens hanging in the back. DEAD mother FREAKING chickens. WHAT THE BUMP! If you look closely in the back right of this photo behind the coke fridge you can see them.

SO for some reason, my dumbass thinks it's a good idea to eat here anyway. Well I get my food, and it actually looks and smells great.

So, I eat this entire plate of food; yeah I know, it was a lot. I eat this food, and it's great. 5 hrs late, I seriously feel like I'm someone has stuck a needle in my stomach; I couldn't move or walk, and I felt like I wanted to throw up. IT WAS THOSE DAMN CHICKENS! My suggestion is if you are ever in Chinatown, please DON'T eat here!! I felt so horrible, I ended up catching a fever, my head starting spinning, it was bad.

Well that's my two cents on places to eat and places not to eat in DC!

What the Hell is Going On?

So this weekend was a wonderful weekend spent in DC, great weather, relaxing, pretty much the best weekend I've had in a very long time. On Saturday I decided to go out to the mall (which is conveniently walking distance from my apartment) and I grabbed a book, picked a nice little inviting bench out in the mall, and began people watching and reading. I took a few pictures too while I was there; I could see that the tourist are starting to come out again, I can't wait until the spring time.

On Saturday night, I went out with one of my co-workers to this bar called Cobalt. It was blast, I had a great time, but I ended up throwing up in the end. I haven't thrown up after drinking since I was like a freshman in college. I've come to the conclusion that I don't like Cobalt. I think it's the crowd, they just seem to be the sketchy people of DC. I am more a fan of the clean cut professionals, the type that you see at Nellie's. So, I am scratching Cobalt off of my list of places to go, not to mention I saw a certain someone that I did NOT want to see at Cobalt, lol, yeah don't you hate that.

Ok, so I am leaving a lot of details out about my weekend. But as things develop I will expose some more details, let just go with the flow...

Why I Avoid Bars in VA

So last week, the Virginia General Assembly passed a law allowing those who people to carry concealed weapons into bars and restaurants. Now, don't freak out now, this is was a well thought out plan, see the law also prevents those that bring a concealed weapon into bars and restaurants from consuming alcohol.

I mean, I don't know about you, but I take my gun with me whenever I'm going for 2am pancakes at iHop in Ballston, right? Or some nights I have to debate on what's more important, getting drunk off of my ass, or having my gun for protection.....

OK I'm sorry, this deserves a good WTF! No matter you standpoint, be it conservative, liberal, in between, this just makes me laugh. I mean I am all for gun rights, but I just think restaurants, and bars, are just places where your gun just isn't necessary. I mean this just puts way more pressure than needed (ok guy, since you're not drinking tonight, you're responsible for my M9). Yeah, I thought I'd give everyone the update, so all us actually in the district don't need to worry, we just need to avoid bars in VA. I swear if this were to ever to make it to the district, im NEVER going out in Adam's Morgan again!

NYC!!!

NYC

So you know this weekend was a very eventful weekened; for the first time I tried this thing called the mega bus, it's a double decker bus, that travels from DC to NYC every 30 mintues. It's an amazing deal; if you're one of the first to book your ticket on the bus, your ticket is only $1, I ended up paying $40 round trip, which is much less than the gas and tolls I would've paid to get there, so it was definitely a great deal. But, me being the genius that I am, I booked my ticket for 7:15 AM, not even thinking twice about how the metro doesn't open up until 7:00 on Saturdays! So yeah, I had to walk all the way from my apt to between Chinatown and Metro Center, which was surprisingly a short walk. With all of my bags, it only took me 25 minutes to walk, I was surprised myself. NYC was absolutely amazing, I had a great time with my friend Daniel, Emily, Alex, and my friend Zach, who I had no idea even lived there. Apparently he moved there in hopes to find a job, and has had some great prospects. It's funny, I feel like I have more friends in NYC than I do in DC, shit! I moved to the wrong city! Haha, I'm j/k, I was only there on Satuday, and I left Sunday morning. It was a very nice and relaxing trip, and I will definitely be doing it again soon. And I've got pics to share from NYC as well, see I was thinking about you guys this weekend! It's not enough just to hear about everything, you've gotta see it too.

Newseum

There's also this cool museum called the "newseum" a few blocks up from my apt; on the outside they post newspapers from every state in the US, and it's a very cool museum. I didn't spend too much time there but I would definitely love to go back; but here are some pictures I took here as well.

Newseum

Here are all of the newspapers lined up; it was very cool

In My Backyard

So when I got back home from Richmond on Friday, it was a beautiful day outside; so I decided to take a walk just to see what my neighborhood had to offer; and you know, I was amazed what was only .4 miles down 7th St SW; (and people say I live in the ghetto!) You see, I've been getting so much crap for living in SW and people really don't realize what a nice area it is. I found out this weekend, I'm walking distance from Chinatown; walking distance from the Federal Triangle, and the smithsonian, tons of museums, urban outfitters, the capital building, the washington monument, EVERYTHING! I don't understand why more people don't live here, it's awesome! Well I've taken some photos, so I decided I'd share them with everyone!

Always Something There to Remind Me....

UGH! SOOOOOOOOOO

To start out, this weekend was supposed to be an amazing weekend spent amongst all of my best of friends in Raleigh, NC.... BUT long story short, thanks to a car accident, and the snow storm, I was stuck in DC this weekend; this weekend was not nearly as fun just because most of my friends were out of town and... oh yeah it was valentine's day weekend, so everyone else was FUCKING while I was home alone. Right... you're sooooo jealous right!?

So Friday night was ok, I went out with a friend to a couple of bars, made my usual stop at Nellies (shout out to my favorite DC bar) ended up with some random ass RuPaul coaster things (I think that's how you spell it); you know, those things you put on your coffee table that keeps the condensation from fucking it up. Not that it's really necessary on my coffee table since it's cheap and from ikea, and it's faux wood, I don't think a little water is gonna hurt it. BUUUTTT Saturday, I went out gain with my friend Jon, and it was an oookkk night. We went to this bar called Cobalt, which I've been to before, but for some reason it was not the same. First off, there were an usual amount of gaysians (gay asians) here at this bar; not that I have a problem with this, we all know I love asians, shit I believe I was asian in another life, but just kind of threw me off a little bit but it was ok; so yeah, I'm at this bar, and it's just me and my friend Jon. Now, normally I have no problem going to the bar with just one other person, but it's nights like these that make me go, man I wish there were 3 or 4 or 10 of us! So we're at the bar, and Jon gets hit on (of course, he always does) and leaves me with the BUSTED friend. So Jon tells me, "oh I'm going to be right back, we're going to go to the 1st floor to talk and exchange information." One I know this is bad news because, you don't need to separate yourself to exchange numbers, HELLO it's 2010, in this technological age, all you need is an iPhone and the Bump application; no verbal communication even necessary, but WHATEV. So I'm dancing with BUSTED, and I'm texting Jon, as a matter of fact let me read them to you...

Me 1:34 AM: ok come downstairs please
Me 1:42 AM: dude not to be a cock block, but bring your ass downstairs
Me 1:54 AM: alright man, if you're not up here in 10 im going to kill you, im dancing with busted!!!
Me 2:24 AM: ok so not cool
Me 2:36 AM: leavin

So I got to know busted fairly well though, apparently busted just moved to DC, went to Rutgers Univ in NJ, majored in music, and now does some music shit with kids? You know, if I weren't so annoyed with the situation busted and I could have actually ended up being a pretty good friend... but... FUCK YOU JON! So yes, Jon shows up as if nothing happens (omg you texted me?) yeah, don't you hate that. I'm just thinking in my head, man that's soooo a lie I would pull, but it's whatever, I'm not going to cause a scene. So I tell him, great man hope everything's good, and I leave the bar.

Well thanks to this snowpocalypse that DC has gotten over the past MONTH, the subways closed at 12am on Saturday, AND the roads were still not completely plowed, this made finding a cab home very interesting. I would literally go up to cab drivers and tell them I was headed to SW, and they would keep driving. So I decided to walk 3 miles back to SW from NW! Ugh! But once I got out of the dupont area and made it to logan circle, I found a cab dropping someone off who was willing to take me home, THANK GOD! It was funny though, seeing some girls on the side of the road crying trying to find cabs. If you didn't live in the district, and you were trying to find a cab home, you were pretty much fucked, it was kind of ridiculous. Everyone was just roaming the streets desperate for a ride home, being pretty sober it was definitely an interesting sight.

Well Sunday, I basically sat at home and was my own valentine. I made myself dinner, got myself flowers, and just enjoyed being alone. You know, something about solitude, I was always afraid of it though, but it's days like Sunday that really make me enjoy living alone, being a young adult, and just living my life. That was until.....

So Hawaiian! I was just going on facebook on Sunday, because I mean everyone gets on at least once a day right, the Hawaiian is DATING someone. Yes, dating someone else. Not that the Hawaiian has even crossed my mind in a while, but something always makes you wonder, why someone just falls off the face of the earth. Had I found this out on any other day other than valentine's day, I don't think this would have been THAT big a deal, but considering the circumstances, I think God felt like knocking me off of my high horse and giving me a good FUCK YOU that day. It's ok, I recovered. So that was my weekend, had a lot of me time and missed my weekend in Raleigh, but it's ok.

I hope all of your valentine's days were waaayy more eventful than mine! And share, tell me how you spent it! :)

State of Emergency

So... as most of you know I have not posted up here in a VERY long time; well a lot has been going on with me, and I haven't actually been in DC for about a month now; I've been in Richmond, VA for my job. So I didn't really find it appropriate to be writing about DC while I'm not actually there, but what the hell, you guys can't go that long without a post from me right???

Well even though I've been working in Richmond, VA for my job, since it's still relatively close to DC I have been traveling back on the weekends and man the SNOW has made this very stressful, so bad that I was not able to make it home this past weekend. But a lot has been going on, so where do I begin....

Well, I am establishing a good little group of friends in DC. My friend Jon, who actually went to my high school, goes to school in DC and we have started hanging out, and Doug and I, who I met through a friend, have been hanging out a lot as well. They are basically my two good friends that I hang out with the most while I'm there. I am working to meet new people, but it's a little difficult to do when I'm only there on the weekends. But yeah, I'm still working on meeting new people but it's still too early to have established really close friends.

Love life, is basically non existent. I have gone out on about 7 dates with the person we'll call "J" who I mentioned in a previous post. We haven't been able to see each other in the past 2 weeks, due to weather conditions, and just conflicting schedules. We still talk on the phone, and everything is good with that but the fact that I'm not there as much definitely puts a damper on the whole thing, so we'll see what happens, I'll keep you posted.

So I'm sure you're all dying to hear about all of this FUCKING snow that we've been receiving in DC. Yes, this past weekend we got over 2 FT of snow, the worst snow storm that DC has seen since 1995/1996! The city called for a State of Emergency! Shutting down stores, shops, above ground metros, bus system, EVERYTHING! It was a bit ridiculous, bars were still open though! But this just let me in Richmond, so I had a fairly depressing weekend. Last weekend though we got another storm leaving us with 6" of snow; I was actually in DC for that one. I was freaking out, afraid I wouldn't be able to make it back to Richmond on Monday, but I was fine.

The pictures I posted below were taken in Richmond, VA this weekend; the snow was not nearly as bad here as it was in DC, but I figured I'd give you a looksy!

OK, so this upcoming weekend I will be going to Raleigh, NC where I went to school! I am sooooo excited to go back to see all of my closest friends who I haven't seen in so long! It's going to be very weird now going back and not actually having my bed there, or being so behind on what's going on in everyone's lives. Once you move away you can't possibly keep up with EVERYONE so some people you just have to catch up with once a year, it's sad really, but that's what happens when you graduate from college. :(

So yeah, since I've waited so long to post, I couldn't possibly sit here and bore you with every single detail of what has gone on with me in the past month, so I'll leave it at this; lets recap

1- I brought the snow to DC, sorry guys, you can blame me
2- I am going to be single for the rest of my life :( j/k
3- I am in Richmond, that is my excuse for waiting so long to post, but I promise, I refuse to do this again, I will start keeping you posted
4- I am going back to Raleigh this weekend, so Raleigh better watch the FUCK out!

Well don't loose faith in me yet guys, keep checking me out, and I will definitely have more stories to entertain you with what's going on in my life

D's Quote of the Day : When life brings you snow, buy up all the food in the grocery store because your ass is not leaving the house

D's 2nd Quote of the Day : Just because you drive an SUV, does NOT mean that you are incapable of crashing in the snow

D's 3rd Quote of the Day : (I saw this on Oprah's show because apparently this bitch is serious about texting and driving) "Honk if you love Jesus, text if you want to meet him"

I thought I'd catch you up on some quotes, bye guys!

When All Is Lost

So, I've obviously been slacking on the post, so I will give you a brief overview with what's been going on...

My ex is done for good, no communcation no nothing; even though we broke up we used to still at the very least text every other day. Long story short, I was manipulated and it has scarred me so bad the wounds will take years to heal; don't ever fall in love, by far the worst idea ever!

I've lost three of the closest girls that I've ever had in my life, over a new years eve argument. Try mending a friendship when you live 4 hours apart and 3 people refuse to see why you got so upset; not exactly the easiest thing to do.

No try finding replacements; impossible! How do you replace a 1.5 yr relationship, or a 4 yr friendship, you just don't! I mean eventually but there is not quick fix to this and that's what sucks! I guess all of the losses has made this move even more real, I am all alone and it's sad!

On a positive note, I have two dates this week with two amazing people. One is one that I've been talking to for a couple of weeks now who we'll refer to as J. This is technically date #3 with J and I am kind of excited; date #1 went a little too fast, so we're slowing things down a bit which is good, especially given my circumstances, I am not ready to move so quickly just yet.

Also we have date wirh the Hawaiian I met several weeks ago, mentioned In a previous post. The Hawaiian is super amazing, we have been talking recently now for a couple of days and we have a lot in common.

My good old friend Quincy came over the new years break and introduced me to Jon someone I already knew but not that well and jon lives here in DC, so we have been hanging out and he is definitely my new hang out buddy here in DC. So now I have several friends here to connect with, but starting new friendships still have those awkward quirks in the beginning because you can never still fully be yourself. Man it's hard starting from scratch again.

But I have to say, for someone coming here knowing absolutely no one, I thinknits have done fairly well for myself here in the month I have been here, and it's only going up from here!

Sorry I haven't been posting more often, NYE break was just a crazy period, I'm currently updating from my phone, so when I update with my computer I'll have way more details to add then!

Happy New Years!
